When you look at any picture of a person, the first thing that catches your eye will be the general appearance of the face, and the teeth are undoubtedly one of the most factors that improve this image or make it inappropriate. If you are missing one or more teeth and want to replace them to fill in the gaps in your mouth, you will find that there are plenty of procedures that do this.
But we can say that dental implants are the best and only option that is always considered and remains in the mouth for many years without worrying about losing it again. We will provide you with a detailed description of all stages of dental implants, cost, advantages and disadvantages, in addition to the process steps and conditions.

What is the dental implant process?

Dental implants are artificial implants that are placed in the mouth to replace missing or damaged teeth. Implants are attached to the jawbone to serve as the root of the tooth, and a replacement artificial tooth is installed over it. The visible teeth can be replaced by means of dentures, bridges, and crowns.

In the process of placing dental implants, an implant instrument that is very similar to a rotating screw is surgically fixed into the bone to allow osseointegration to occur. This is a natural process whereby materials such as titanium are able to form close bonds to bone, without the risk of rejection or infection. Once the osseointegration process is successful and after proper healing at the surgical site, an artificial tooth will be attached over the implant.

Dental implant components

Dental implants are mainly used as a long-term support for artificial teeth. If the implants are successfully integrated into the jawbone, these components will be able to effectively support the teeth for decades with little maintenance or intervention. Many dental and oral professionals recommend the use of dental implants because of its many advantages.

These include improving the appearance of teeth and comfort for patients. Teeth supported by implants are very similar to natural teeth and are designed for long-term or permanent use. Oral health is also greatly improved because unlike dental crowns or dental bridges, dental implants do not require abrasion of other teeth. Other benefits include a higher level of comfort and improved self-confidence.Dental implants require expertise in planning, surgery, and dental restorations. It is as much about art and expertise as it is about science.

What do dental implants do?

This procedure is a team effort between you and your dentist. Your periodontist and dentist will consult with you to determine the location and method of dental implants. Depending on your specific condition and the type of implant chosen, your periodontist will create a treatment plan designed to meet your needs. Dental implants replace missing teeth in the following cases:

  • Single tooth replacement: If you are missing one tooth, it can be replaced with one implant and one crown.
  • Replacing multiple teeth: If you are missing several teeth, implant-supported bridges can replace them.
  • Replacing all of your teeth: If you lose all of your teeth, a full bridge or implant-supported complete denture can replace them.
  • Sinus Support: The key to the success of an implant is the quantity and quality of bone where the implant is placed. The posterior maxilla is one of the most challenging areas for successful implant placement due to inadequate bone quantity and quality and proximity to the sinuses. A sinus augmentation can help correct this problem by raising the sinus floor and developing bone to place dental implants.
  • Adjustment of the rows of teeth: Deformities of the rows of teeth can leave you with deformities in the upper or lower jaw with bone that is not suitable for implant placement. To correct the problem, the gums are lifted away from the edge to expose the bone defect. The defect is then filled with bone substitute to build the appropriate rows . Dental row adjustment has been shown to improve appearance and increase your chance of successful implants that may last for years to come.

Dental implant conditions

Generally, if you have lost your teeth, you are a candidate for a dental implant. It is important to be in good health, because there are certain diseases and problems that can affect whether dental implants are right for you. For example, uncontrolled diabetes, cancer or radiation to the jaws, smoking, alcoholism, or uncontrolled gum disease may affect whether or not dental implants will fuse with your bone. It is important to tell your doctor about your past and present medical conditions with all medications you take, whether prescribed or alternative such as herbal or over-the-counter medications.

Where and how to implant your teeth requires a detailed evaluation of your overall mineralogy, mouth, and jaws, through which the teeth operate. This will require compiling records that include mouth and bite study models, and specialized radiographic images such as X-rays, which may include a 3D scan known as a computed tomography or CT scan. Computer imaging-assisted planning ensures that dental implants can be placed in exactly the correct position in the bone.

Types of dental implants

There are hundreds of companies and factories working in the field of dental implants these days, which is why dentists have a variety of options to find the preferred implant treatment to meet the specific needs of their patient. If you go to a specific dentist to get dental implants, you have the opportunity to get different types of dental implants, including the same types of implants, different methods of performing the operation, and multiple techniques for performing the operation.

The type of dental implantthe description
Cultivation over boneIntraosseous implants are commonly used for single-stage procedures. They are placed within the gum tissue on the jawbone. The implant head protrudes from the gums to hold the restoration. The primary advantage of this type of implant is that it can securely hold dentures for individuals who do not have sufficient bone height.
Intraosseous implantsThe operations are most commonly performed in two stages. They are surgically implanted directly into the jawbone and are an alternative to bridges or removable dentures. They come in several types including screw, cylinder and smooth implant.
Two-stage cultivationThe two-stage procedure is the most common method of dental implantation. The implant is surgically placed in the jawbone so that the bone flush lies under the gum. The gum tissue is then closed with stitches to protect the implant while the surrounding bone heals. After a period of recovery, a second minor surgery is performed to expose the implant in order to attach the abutment and final tooth.
single-stage cultivationThis method involves a longer, one-piece implant that protrudes through the gums once it is positioned in the jawbone. After the recovery period, the abutment and crown can be placed without additional implant detection surgery. A two-piece implant can be used like the existing two-stage process. The implant and abutment are attached and healed immediately during the initial surgery.
Mini dental implantsIt is similar to traditional dental implants, except that it depends on a much smaller implant and has a narrower size for faster recovery. The doctor will not have to cut the gums because the screw will be embedded in the bone leaving the gums with a very small incision, which makes the healing process faster.
Immediate cultivationIn carefully selected cases, implant placement and restoration are performed during a single surgical procedure. Implants are surgically placed immediately after tooth extraction, followed by crown placement soon after. Sufficient bone volume and density are required to be a candidate for this procedure.

Stages of dental implants

Dental implants are not just gluing and installing some artificial teeth in the mouth , it is a complete surgical procedure that takes several months to treat your damaged teeth and replace missing teeth and roots with artificial ones. Depending on several factors, dental implants are safer and more comfortable than traditional root fillings and full dentures. Dental implants also last for a long time even for the rest of your life with proper care. It is noted that dental implants have been a reliable alternative to natural teeth for more than 40 years. The process of implanting teeth takes place in 6 basic steps, which we will explain in detail.

Dental Implants
  • Initial consultations

Before starting the procedure, your dentist or orthodontist will ask you for your consent to the dental implant. He or she will perform a complete dental exam, take x-rays of the damaged teeth and the area around them, and then take impressions of the size and shape of your teeth. After an initial evaluation, he or she will talk to you about the treatment plan he recommends, the types of dental implants, and may explain the procedure steps and time frame.

  • Bone grafting and tooth removal

If the jawbone is healthy and intact, and there is no need for a bone graft, you will be able to start the operation. However, if you have had bone grafts for any reason, it may take 3-12 months before your jawbone is healthy enough to support an implant.

  • implantation mode

The next step is the placement of the implant, or implant, which snaps into the jawbone. A dental implant is a metal screw that is shaped like the root of a tooth. The screw sits in your jawbone and acts as an anchor for the entire dentures. Before the implant is placed, local anesthesia will be administered, and you will fall asleep during the entire procedure and it may take 1-2 hours to complete. After the transplant is completed, the healing process begins. This may extend to 7 months for upper jaw implants and 3-5 months for mandibular implants. Once healing is complete, the next step may begin.

  • Temporary crown placement

The dentist will check whether the dental implant has fused completely with the jawbone. If it fuses properly, it’s time to get a temporary crown to heal. It is a round piece of metal that will be placed on top of an already embedded implant. The healing cap is applied to promote healing and guide the gum tissue in a proper way for healing and will stay on for a week or so.

  • stent placement

Now for the next step of dental implants which is the placement of the abutment. It is the part of the screw that supports the permanent crown. Once this step is completed, the dentist will take another impression to design a permanent crown and this step may take another 6-7 weeks. Or it can be performed immediately in immediate dental implants.

  • Permanent crown placement

The next step is to place the permanent crown. A crown is a natural-looking metal, porcelain, or ceramic part that will be cemented or bonded to an abutment already in place. Crowns are further divided into two types which are removable and fixed crowns. As their names indicate, the former can be removed for daily cleaning while the latter snap into place. The fixed crown is much stronger and stable than the other type. Finally, your doctor will discuss things to do while you’re healing, such as foods and exercises that will promote healing.

How successful is your experience?

Dental implants are among the most successful restoration procedures in dentistry. Studies have shown that the five-year success rate is about 95% for mandibular implants and 90% for maxillary implants. The success rate of maxillary implants is slightly lower because the upper jaw is less dense than the lower jaw. This makes the implant more difficult for the surgeon, and difficult to perform with reverse osmosis, or the operation in which the implant fuses with the jawbone. Dental implants may fail for several reasons, including:

cause of failurethe description
Placement of implantsIf the implant is not positioned properly, the process of fusion into the bone will not occur as expected.
Jaw bone fractureAn inexperienced doctor may damage the jaw bone and end up fracturing it or the upper surface.
infectionSometimes the doctor fails to place the implants with proper sterilization which leads to infection and inflammation of the implant.
smokingOne of the most important reasons why implants do not fuse with the jawbone and causes gingivitis during healing.
Oral hygieneLack of attention to oral hygiene ends up in the formation of gingivitis, implants, and dental implant failure.

Cultivation will play the biggest role in success rates. It is essential to find a highly qualified oral surgeon when considering dental implants. At Turkiyaholidays International Center, we do not offer any special procedures until after ensuring that the patient is safe and free of any obstacles that prevent the complete success of the operation.

If there are any contraindications that may make the operation fail, the specialist doctor will tell you about them, who will provide you with a free consultation before performing the operation. We are committed to providing dental implant services to all our patients in the Middle East and Europe after providing a free consultation before performing the operation

The cost of dental implants

Dental implants are usually more expensive than traditional alternatives such as bridges and dentures. Once you have had an examination and spoken to your dentist, he or she will be able to provide you with a specific price estimate for your case. Not all cases of dental implants are the same, as these procedures differ among themselves in terms of the number of teeth to be replaced, the extent of the efficiency of the jaw bones, the country providing the service, as well as the quality of the materials used in the process. Some people choose to travel to foreign countries to take advantage of their prices for dental implants in Turkey. Some of the most popular destinations include Eastern Europe, India, Mexico, Thailand and Turkey. This is due to the high cost of dental implants in countries such as the United States, England, the Arabian Gulf, and other countries, which start from about $4,000 for a single tooth implant, and this cost often reaches more than $20,000 when implanting several teeth or an entire row, and you may not get Exact cost since all prices are not included in the expected cost.

risks and disadvantages

Dental implants are completely safe procedures, however, as with any procedure, dental implant treatment comes with some potential challenges and risks. Some of the more common problems include infection, injury to other teeth or blood vessels, sinus problems, and nerve damage.

Although dental implants are generally a safe procedure, you should speak with a board-certified dentist for professional advice tailored to your needs. A certified dentist will ensure that you have detailed information about side effects and potential problems prior to treatment. If you have pain or discomfort for more than a week after surgery, see your dentist to make sure everything is healing properly.

What causes a dental implant infection?

The infection is usually caused by bacteria in the mouth that is exposed to the gums during treatment. This generally occurs when a diseased tooth is removed to insert the implant and bacteria from the damaged tooth is left behind.

It can also occur if the implant is not positioned properly, leaving a gap between the implant and the bone that allows bacteria to enter.

Most of the time, dental implant infections occur in the gums. They can appear red and swollen, and sometimes bleed or leak pus. Other infections, although rare, can occur in the jawbone which may lead to bone loss.

Dental implant infections in the gums are not common, but they are usually mild and do not last for long. More often than not, an infection in the gums can be treated with a short course of antibiotics.

Can dental implants damage teeth or blood vessels?

Surrounding teeth and blood vessels can be damaged during dental implant treatment. A certified dentist will be able to identify any potential problems on x-rays and a careful examination of your teeth prior to the procedure to try to avoid these problems.

It is possible for the dentist to damage the root of the adjacent tooth while drilling into the jawbone to insert the implant. This leads to damage to the teeth and blood vessels. This is rare but if you have any concerns about this risk you can speak to a board-certified dentist for professional advice.

Treatment of damaged or vascularized teeth may require a filling or cap to close the hole in the tooth and protect the root. If the root is damaged, a root canal may be required to avoid injury and further damage.

Can dental implants cause nerve damage?

Nerve damage can occur during dental implant treatment in the lower jaw. This can happen when the implant is placed close to a major nerve that runs through the mandibular line. Symptoms of nerve damage may be pain, numbness, and tingling in the gums, cheek, lips, or tongue.

The main nerve that runs through the lower jaw is very sensitive. If your dentist hits you during the procedure, or it implants near the nerve, it could damage it. An experienced doctor can locate the nerve and avoid close contact with careful planning before treatment.

Can dental implants cause sinus problems?

Sinus damage can occur during upper jaw dental implant treatment. The bones in our face are hollow and the spaces within them are called sinuses. If the dentist does not have enough bone to insert a dental implant, the bone can be perforated. If the bone is pierced, it can damage the sinuses and pose a risk of developing sinusitis.

Sinus perforation is rare and occurs most often when treating dental implants in the upper jaw. Damage can occur when the bones in the face are punctured by tools or dental implants, creating the risk of developing sinusitis. In most cases, the dental implant will be removed and the bone repaired before a new dental implant is placed.

How to reduce the risks of dental implants?

While the risks associated with dental implants are rare, it is important that you take the right steps to reduce the possibility of developing an infection or experiencing these complications. Consult a certified dentist at Turkiyaholidays before treatment. A good dental surgeon will carefully examine your mouth, take X-rays and CT scans to identify any potential problems and plan your treatment appropriately.

Smoking limits bone growth and reduces the success rates of dental implants. If you smoke, try to quit before the operation to give yourself a better chance of recovery. Maintain good oral health, make sure you brush your teeth at least twice a day, and floss daily before treatment to ensure that your mouth is completely clean of bacteria.

Do not touch the treatment site after the procedure. Although it may be tempting to run your tongue over the new implant, disturbing the area can lead to irritation and infection. Follow your dentist’s instructions and if you have been prescribed antibiotics to prevent infection, complete the last course.

Maintaining good oral health and a healthy oral care routine will reduce the buildup of plaque and bacteria, which helps prevent infection. You will likely be required to use mouthwash several times daily for the first week following the procedure and rinsing with warm salt water is also a great way to encourage healing.

Contraindications for dental implants

In order to increase the likelihood of dental implant success, the mouth, gums and jaws must be in good health. There are some cases in which dental implants are contraindicated because the risk of failure is much higher, if the patient suffers from:

  • Untreated tooth decay
  • Active periodontal disease
  • Uncontrolled diabetes
  • The weakness and lack of thickness of the jaw bone, which makes it unable to support the implant

This is because people with these conditions have an increased risk of infection and implant failure, or dental implants are more likely to fail. Smokers should be encouraged to quit before they are given dental implants because quitting smoking greatly increases the chances of success.

When the implant cannot be positioned sufficiently into the bone to provide initial stability of the implant, there is an increased risk of reverse osmosis failure. Preventive antibiotics are usually given before the transplant, as this can help reduce the risk of implant failure by one-third.

Dental implant pain

Although it is well documented that dental implants are a pain-free procedure, many people are concerned about dental implant pain after surgery . Once the anesthesia wears off, the question on many patients’ lips is, will they be in pain and if so, how long will this pain last?

During the first few hours after the dental implant procedure, you are likely to feel a little tired. After all, I’ve had major oral surgery. You may also feel a dull ache coming from the implant site. This is normal and usually occurs 2-4 hours after any anesthetic wears off. In this case, the dentist will usually prescribe over-the-counter pain relievers to make life more comfortable.

Additionally, you may also notice a little bit of blood. This is not a cause for concern and again is completely normal. In fact, gauze is applied not only to clean the area, but to protect it.

About two hours after the operation, it is okay to eat. However, try to avoid hot food or drink and stick to soft foods that are lukewarm or cold. Foods like ice cream or soup are ideal, and if you drink alcohol, avoid drinking and finally avoid any strenuous movements.

After the first 24 hours, you may also start to experience mild bruising or swelling. You don’t have to worry because this is simply a natural way to recover. Try to heal the bruises with a combination of hot and cold compresses.

This should greatly reduce swelling. Now, you have to be on 24 hours to partake in hot foods. However, it is still recommended to avoid crunchy foods for a while. Instead of these, foods such as fish and pasta are ideal. Additionally, you should also resume brushing at this point.

Around the third to fourth day after your transplant, you should see your facial swelling peak, then start to disappear completely. In fact, by the sixth or seventh day, most patients have little or no noticeable swelling or bruising.

Additionally, on about day five, any dental implant pain should now be relieved. However, this may take longer if a more complex surgery is required or multiple dental implants are performed.

This is also the period when normal activities can be resumed, however try to avoid strenuous physical exercise and limit any bending and bending. In terms of foods, you may still feel like eating softer foods, but include well-cooked vegetables or soft fruits such as bananas or peaches in your diet. These will help boost your immune system and aid in a speedy recovery.

By now the healing process should be going well and you should be back to living a normal and healthy life. The dentist will usually want to see you again 3-4 weeks after surgery assuming all is well. Then, if you have traditional implants eg those where the abutment and crown are installed separately they will want to see you again to reveal the implant in order to fit the permanent crown usually 3-6 months after the initial surgery.

Dental Implants

duration of dental implantation

The time for the operation varies according to the type of operation chosen by the doctor in consultation with the patient. There is an operation that was performed in 3 stages, two stages, and one stage, but the healing time of the operation is the interval in the process of time, as the bones must be given an opportunity to fuse with the implant implanted in it in the stage of osseointegration. The length of the three-stage and two-stage healing process stems from the fact that the doctor waits for the bone to fuse with the implant after it has been implanted before performing the final step and fixing the crown.

This will not be the case when performing the one-stage operation, where the doctor installs the implant and then places the brace and crown directly, and the time required for the healing process is after the full operation. In some cases where the jaw bones are not sufficient and their density is not appropriate, it is necessary to perform a bone grafting operation before the transplant. This process extends the time needed to perform the cultivation in general and adds time to the basic time for it.

Regardless of bone grafting, the three-stage and two-stage dental implant process takes 3-6 months . But if you need a bone graft, the process will take between 9 to 12 months, depending on the patient’s condition. However, the one-stage process may take from one day to several days, depending on the general condition of the patient.
